Eminescu

Romanians are celebrating, as a first, poet Mihai Eminescu, 161 years since his birth, by holding on January 15 of the National Culture Day.
M.Eminescu

M. Eminescu

Aici : Oda in metru antic ( recita Adrian Paunescu)

Nu credeam să-nvăţ a muri vreodată;
Pururi tânăr, înfăşurat în manta-mi,
Ochii mei ‘nălţam visători la steaua
Singurătăţii.
Când deodată tu răsărişi în cale-mi,
Suferinţă tu, dureros de dulce…
Până-n fund băui voluptatea morţii
Ne-ndurătoare.
Jalnic ard de viu chinuit ca Nessus,
Ori ca Hercul înveninat de haina-i;
Vino iar în sân, nepăsare tristă;
Ca să pot muri linişiti, pe mine
Mie redă-ma!

here : ODE ( (in ancient meter)

Hardly had I thought I should learn to perish;
Ever young, enwrapped in my robe I wandered,
Raising dreamy eyes to the star styled often
Solitude's symbol.
All at once, however, you crossed my pathway -
Suffering - you, painfully sweet, yet torture...
To the less I drank the delight of dying -
Pitiless torment.
Sadly racked, I'm burning alive like Nessus,
Or like Hercules by his garment poisoned;
Nor can I extinguish my flames with every
Billow of oceans.
By my own ilussion consumed I'm wailing
On my own grim pyre in flames I'm melting...
Can I hope to rise again like the Phoenix
Bird from the ashes?
May all tempting eyes vanish from my pathway
Come back to my breast, you indifferent sorrow!
So that I may quietly die, restore me
To my own being!
ODE(in ancient meter) - M.Eminescu /English version by Andrei Bantas

Wind---The last picture of the angel (at the bottom of your post) is just about the most hauntingly beautiful shots I have ever seen. I showed it to Cindy, and she swooned. Thank you, my friend. Blessings from Texas.

Eminescu is a romantic and mystical poet, Your series of photographs are hauntingly beautiful. A stunning tribute to this poet who died so young and wrote so many beautiful poems. Wonderful black and whites compositions with dark and light shadows. Nice to look at each one in close detail.

Have a nice week end, my blog friend.

Both the poem and the sculptures penetrate our soul and make it vibrate.

I think the word "teacher" should be added to the list of your accomplishments, Wind. I really knew nothing of your poet, Mihai Eminescu, beyond his name, but you have stirred my interest and now I will try to learn more about this man and his work.

Your photographs of the statuary is fascinating. The thought sometimes crosses my mind that it is more interesting to capture the images of these fellows than those of actual, living beings.

in vinele noastre, cu steaua predestinarii

There's a quiet sacredness to the pictures. I like the poem that you have attached with it too.

Wow! You're photos put life into these statues. It seems that they are breathing.

And that poetry makes me cry. I read them loud with all my heart. Indeed, words like that are precious.

Thanks for sharing this story. I'll be googling Eminescu more and read more his poetry.

In fotografiile tale pana si mormintele au o frumusete aparte.

Multe versuri imi vin in minte in fiecare zi, in mod obsedant, versuri despre devenirea omului, sau cele de satira politica.
cat despre restul pozelor - fara suparare - sunt citeva statui care m-au dus cu gindul la Lord of the ring.
o saptamina buna sa ai.

Hi Wind, What a lovely tribute to Eminescu and the National Culture day.
This is an amazing and well thought out post as you have managed to link so many things together on to the one page seamlessly. Your choice of subject, creativity and composition at Bellu is as ever first class. If I had to pick one it would be the hands.... I can feel the texture as if I was there and a second would be the inscription on the marble before it.
Lastly, don't spend too much time in the cemetery !!
I know it's monday, but I hope your week goes well, regards to you, J
