Lotus and Pray for Japan

The lotus flower is not your average flower
 — it is a power flower! It is bigger than life, bigger than you and me.
The lotus flower is revered in Japan for its ability to rise from the dirty,
murky waters to bloom into a beautiful pure flower. This process symbolizes attaining enlightenment.
The idea is that we can rise above human suffering in the same way as the lotus by moving from the lowest to the highest state of consciousness.

'God, protect our planet, because we live here, and here we dwell with our daily tragedies.
May our daily reconstruction be the result of the very best that we carry within us.
Give us the courage
to be able to reconstruct what was destroyed
to be able to recover what was lost
to be able to accept what was gone forever.
May you give us courage to look ahead,
may we never look back nor allow our soul to be discouraged.
Give us enthusiasm, because Enthusiasm reaffirms to us that everything is possible, as long as we are totally committed to what we are doing.
God, may the Earth continue to transform seeds into wheat, may we continue to transmute wheat into bread. Do not leave us in solitude.

Have compassion on us. For we often think we are dressed when we are naked.
Do not forget, in your mercy, our friends in Japan, who are now teaching us the meaning of
Courage, Reconstruction, Solidarity and Enthusiasm.' Paulo Coelho's Blog

Nu pot să mă gândesc decât la acei muncitori kamikaze care lucrează în mijlocul exploziilor de centrale şi sunt înconjuraţi de radiaţii... pentru a-şi salva ţara de ceva mai rău.

Deep into the darkness
the lotus is born,
strong
but smooth,
smiling,
but quiet
as a queen.

These resilient people will rise from the debris as they have always done, and by their human efforts, and those of their human friends.

The beauty of these exceptional images are a wonderful reminder of Natures breadth of passion. Thank you for sharing.

All our hearts go out to the Japanese people in their hour need. A very, very touching and emotional poem indeed. My favourite photos are the two with a single raindrop on the leaf, to me it's a sign of rebirth :-).

Wind,
your choice of the lotus flower was perfect for this post. Much as a lotus rises up against the muck & mud to become a beautiful flower, it is symbolic as the people of Japan are going to persevere & overcome this disaster to rise up again, too. My heart feels a great sadness for them, as through loss & tragedy, and continued threat, It will be a long difficult road.
Beautiful post, choice of words & images.
Thank you.

Beautiful macro post Wind.
Great choice of flower with deep meaning for the Japanese people shown below although personally I go with the prayer. Appropriate that there should be drops of water and flowers about to open symbolising the tears and the determination to re build their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with this nation at such a tragic time.

Hi Wind,
Sorry for being absent from your fantastic blog but I am glad to see wonderful photos of Lotus. It's one of my favorite plants.
Things are still messy in Japan but my family and I are all alive and we have nothing to complain about current inconvenient life in our area. Our area is not bad at all when compared to the coast in Tohoku region.
Thanks for your words and have a wonderful weekend.
Your friend Yoshi from Japan.
