Lhasa de Sela - Rising

I got caught in a storm
And carried away
I got turned, turned around

I got caught in a storm
That's what happened to me
So I didn't call
And you didn't see me for a while

I was rising up
Hitting the ground
And breaking and breaking

I was caught in a storm
Things were flying around

And doors were slamming
And windows were breaking
And I couldn't hear what you were saying
I couldn't hear what you were saying
I couldn't hear what you were saying

I was rising up
Hitting the ground
And breaking and breaking

Rising up
Rising up

Lhasa de Sela - Rising Lyrics

Artist: Lhasa de Sela
Album: Lhasa
http://www.songlyrics.com/lhasa-de-sela/rising-lyrics/

Lhasa de Sela, a Mexican-American singer and songwriter who became an international star after moving to Canada, died on Jan. 1 at her home in Montreal. She was 37.
The cause was breast cancer, which she had been battling for almost two years, said her partner, Ryan Morey.
Ms. de Sela, who performed under the single name Lhasa, sang in English, Spanish and French. Her lyrics ranged from simple declarations of love and loneliness to dark stories steeped in the imagery of fairy tales. Her melodies drew from a range of sources, including Mexican folk songs and the music of French chanteuses like Édith Piaf, to whom her highly emotional delivery often drew comparisons.

Year of the Monkey

2016 (on the Chinese calendar) is a year of the Monkey, starting from February 8 (Chinese New Year), and ending on January 27, 2017 (Chinese New Year’s Eve).

In Chinese astrology, each year is associated with a Chinese zodiac animal sign and one the Five Elements: Gold (Metal), Water, Wood, Fire, or Earth. Both the sign and element of your birth year are said to affect your personality and destiny. Element-sign combinations recur every 60 years:
The Five Monkeys Born Character
Fire Monkey ... 2016, 1956, ... Ambitious and adventurous, but irritable
Wood Monkey ... 2004, 1944, ... Always ready to help others; compassionate, with strong self-esteem, but stubborn
Water Monkey ... 1992, 1932, ... Smart, quick-witted, fond of being in the limelight, but haughty
Gold Monkey ... 1980, 1920, ... Smart, quick-witted, and confident, but also irritable and stubborn
Earth Monkey ... 1968, 1908, ... Frank, optimistic, and fearless

24 January 1859 – The founding of the modern Romanian national state

It is well known that the 19th Century represents an epoch of strong affirming of nations, of national states, so it was named “the century of nationalities.” Over a relatively short time interval, of several decades, the Greeks, Serbians, Italians, Germans, Bulgarians founded national states that gradually became important actors on the international stage, some of them – such as Germany – even with hegemonic aspirations.
Romanians, too, were among the peoples that succeeded in founding the state in its modern form, although not all of them were included in it, because of objective conditions.
A neo-Latin people, continuator and heir to the ‘Oriental Roman world,’ Romanians – like other peoples of the Ponto-Baltic isthmus, had a contorted history that made them live separated, from a political point of view, for several centuries.

Mihai Eminescu

Mihai Eminescu
15 January 1850 – 15 June 1889
 was a Romantic poet, novelist and journalist, often regarded as the most famous and influential Romanian poet.

Eminescu, the icon of the Romanian culture and the last romantic poet of Europe, is today celebrated in all corners of the world.

I am very fond of Eminescu’s work and it is hard to say which pieces would be my favourite. Apart from many, many others, the “Gloss” touches me differently every time I read it, perhaps because it goes and goes in circle with a mirror effect and symmetric style:
“Days go past and days come still
All is old and all is new,
What is well and what is ill,
You imagine and construe;
Do not hope and do not fear,
Waves that leap like waves must fall;
Should they praise or should they jeer,
Look but coldly on it all”.

“Look but coldly on it all,
Should they praise or should they jeer;
Waves that leap like waves must fall,
Do not hope and do not fear.
You imagine and construe
What is well and what is ill;
All is old and all is new,
Days go past and days come still”.

Bucharest lights

Bucharest lights
Nice Christmas market in the heart of the city.  Products ranging from traditional Romanian goods as typical food, costumes, blankets, traditional Christmas market goods as chestnuts, mulled wine to surprising things as hot beer and so on. What I liked most were the Christmas lights project onto the surrounding high, old buildings.
