Freezing Rain

In the last few days, the south of the country has witnessed a rarer weather phenomenon known as freezing rain. Freezing rain appears when temperature is below freezing, according to Realitatea.net. The raindrops become supercooled while passing through a sub-freezing layer of air, many hundred meters, just above the surface, and then freeze upon impact with any object they encounter.

In ultimele zile sudul ţării a fost martorul unui fenomen meteo mai rar, cunoscut de specialişti drept "freezing rain", sau altfel spus, ploaie îngheţată. Ploaia îngheţată apare atunci când temperatura se află sub pragul de îngheţ, informeaza Realitatea.net. Picăturile de ploaie se suprarăcesc în timp ce trec printr-un strat de aer cu temperaturi sub 0 grade, la câţiva metri de pământ, iar apoi îngheaţă la impactul cu orice obiect întâlnit.
