Forgotten Roads - Tabla Buţii

 Don't come after

Ask the mountains

 Why couldn't this go on?

 Couldn't our happiness go on?

Ask the sun that lightens up the sky

Ask the mountains

Ask the green in the woods and the trees

Ask the mountains

 Why couldn't this go on?

Couldn't our happiness go on?

 Ask the mountains

Wild woods, highlands

 Don't come after

 Please don't follow me along

When you read this I'll be gone

Tabla Buţii is a "pass" - an alpine passage at the height of 1340m, in the Curvature Carpathians.
The link through this thoroughfare was always made between the Southern Carpathians towards Muntenia and the interior bend of the Carpathians's curvature to the North - West through Ţara Bârsei with Transylvania.
This pathway is easily accessible thanks to the landscape - not very hilly, being the shortest way between Transylvania towards the Occident and the Danube's exits to the Black Sea, towards Levant.
Tabla Buţii spot is the summit, the peak between the Valley of the Teleajen that rises from Muntenia and the origins of Buzău in the Ciucaş Massif towards Transylvania.
The name of Tabla Buţii comes from the printed "tables" - applied in the past on the barrells filled with merchandise during customs, because there was a custom between Ţara Românească and Transylvania.

  3. A few thoughts:

Although it is clear some people live there, it seems to me to be a country meant for passing though on the way to somewhere else. The horses belong there; people do not, other than for travelers. It makes me think of regions in Montana and Wyoming. It is "see forever" country, and makes me wish I could be an eagle, but only for an hour or two.

There seems to be a frustrated artist in the region, one with a chainsaw who wishes to create monuments from dead or dying trees.

The scenery and the photography both are magnificent, Wind. I never realized before you what a beautiful and wild country Romania can be.

    Your music is very haunting.

And now I've found your blog. These photos remind me a lot of southwestern Colorado. Our daughter lives at 9,000 feet above sea level - I'm not sure what that would work out to in meters...

  25. Şi mie mi-e dor de cărările fiinţei... din păcate nu voi mai putea să le revăd în această viaţă.

Dar îmi pot aminti o poezie destul de nouă a lui Ioan Radu Văcărescu...

    mergeam spre undeva
    nu era foarte departe
    nici uimit
    nici foarte atent nu eram
    poate doar la nevăzutul fâlfâit
    din frunzişul înroşit a moarte

    şi cum singur mergeam
    spre un loc de aproape
    pe cărarea şerpuitoare
    mărginită de mesteceni puieţi
    mă-ntrebam ca-ntr-o doară
    cu suspectă candoare
    dacă n-am greşit cărarea
din ce în ce mai atent
    la fâlfâitul rotund de ereţi

    mergeam singur spre ceva
    credeam că aproape
    şi abea aşteptam să ajung
    dar cărarea ocolea la nesfârşit
    într-un urcuş uşor
    printre fagi tineri
    şi răsturnate stânci
    iar pasu-mi devenea mai lung
    şi mai precis
    în ritmul respiraţiei adânci

mergeam fără de nici o ţintă
    m-am dumirit târziu
dând ocol acelor creste fără de hotar
    ca un erete
    pe cărarea şerpuitoare de aer
    şi-am început să mă opresc
    la fiece altar
    de arbori
    de rocă
    de iarbă
    şi de apă-n repeziş
    atent şi uimit
    la respiraţia munţilor de alabastru
    frate cu ereţii spintecând cerul
cu ţipete şi planări în frunziş
    pelerin cu suflet
    şi virtute de sihastru
